GLOW LIKE A QUEEN BEE: DIY HONEY BEAUTY HACKS YOUR BEST YOUR SKIN AND HAIR

My secret to glowing like royalty isn’t in some overpriced face cream—it’s in the honey jar, of course! Honey is yummy in the tummy indeed, but it’s also great for external use, which is something you learn early when you grow up on a honey farm. For more on this read 6 Things A Saskatchewan Beekeeper Loves Most About Honey. Honey is a natural powerhouse packed with antibacterial, moisturizing, and healing properties that work wonders on skin and hair, no matter your age, gender, complexion, or hair type. Give yourself a pamper sesh—you deserve it. Experiment with 2 easy DIY recipes that’ll leave your skin feeling soft and hydrated.

1. Raw Honey & Oats Soothing Face Mask

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tablespoon raw honey

  • 1 tablespoon finely ground oatmeal (or oat flour)

  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt (or an alternative like aloe vera gel, if preferred)

  • A few drops of water (if needed for spreadable consistency)

STEP 1
In a small bowl, combine the raw honey, oat flour, and yogurt. Stir until well mixed, and add a few drops of water if needed to thin it out to a smooth, spreadable consistency.

STEP 2
Gently apply the mask to your face, using your fingers or a brush to spread it evenly. Avoid the sensitive eye area.

STEP 3
Sit back and relax for 10-15 minutes while the mask works it’s magic.

STEP 4
After 10-15 minutes, rinse the mask off with warm water. Use your fingers to gently massage the oatmeal into your skin for a mild exfoliating effect as you wash it off.

STEP 5
Gently pat your face dry and admire your radiance in the mirror. If you want, you can finish with a moisturizer of your choice to really seal the deal.

WHY IT WORKS
Honey is naturally antibacterial, hydrating, and soothing, making it great for calming irritation and adding moisture—especially good during our dry Saskatchewan winters. Oatmeal helps to exfoliate and soothe inflamed or sensitive skin, leaving your skin soft and smooth. Yogurt  adds an extra layer of hydration and has soothing properties, contains proteins and fats that can help strengthen and repair the skin's natural barrier, helping to calm any redness or irritation. This mask is a perfect combination for leaving your skin feeling nourished, soft, and glowing—a self-care treat for everyone!

2. Honey Hair Soak for Shine

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons raw honey

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

  • A few drops of your favorite essential oil (optional, for scent)

STEP 1
Gently warm the coconut oil until it’s liquid but not too hot to handle.

STEP 2
Combine the warm coconut oil, raw honey, and optional essential oil in a small bowl. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.

STEP 3
Apply the mixture to damp hair, focusing on the ends where extra hydration is often needed.

STEP 4
Leave the treatment in your hair for about 30 minutes. Wrap your hair in a shower cap or towel to avoid mess and help it absorb better. Hang out or do a chore while you wait!

STEP 5
Rinse thoroughly with warm water and follow up with your usual shampoo routine. Enjoy your lucious, shiny locks with a proper hair flip or two in the mirror after your shower.

WHY IT WORKS
Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it helps attract and retain moisture in your hair, leaving it soft and hydrated. Its antioxidants also promote healthy hair and scalp. Coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft, providing deep nourishment and helping to repair damage, while also smoothing the hair and reducing frizz. Essential oils are a bonus ingredient you can add if you want to smell nice, but they don’t necessarily make it work better.
